This blog is about Cameron and Maren's 200 mile hiking journey along the John Muir Trail from Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite National Park to Mount Whitney in Lone Pine, California. We will spend almost one month hiking the trail during July of 2012. The blog will talk about our preparations, the journey and reflections on the trip.

The Benchmark
Lately our parents have been making us hike up to a place called the benchmark. We have to walk up a big hill for 1.8 miles and then back down. It has been really hot on most of our hikes; it is not our favorite.

Yosemite Falls
As part of our training, our parents suggested we hike to the top of Yosemite Falls. We wanted to hike to Nevada Fall, but because it was Memorial Day weekend our parents thought there would be too many people on the trail. It was very crowded on the trail to Yosemite Falls. It was the perfect temperature so that was nice. We went with our families, including our two younger sisters (age 7) who made it to the top with help from Cameron's older sister Avery and lots of Skittles. We had several bags of Skittles which helped us a lot too. At the top we went to the overlook which is a medium sized ledge over the top of Yosemite Falls. It was a big scary getting to the ledge, but the view was really cool. We could see Yosemite Valley and the top part of the waterfall. On the way back down we went a lot faster. The best part of the day was getting ice cream at our local market in El Portal.
