Our Adventure Finally Begins!

Day 1-- July 1st.  We started hiking out from the Tuolumne Meadows Lodge with our two families.  We celebrated Cameron's sister Eris' 8th birthday at the trailhead with coffee cake muffins -- delicious!  We stopped to eat lunch after hiking about three miles... a little pathetic we realize but we're blaming it on our little sisters being tired and ready to stop. Cameron's dad brought two cokes on ice for a surprise because we had a long hike ahead of us.  Lunch was fun along the Lyell Fork of the Tuolumne River, we got to cool off.  After lunch, five members of the group departed to head back home, we were left with our tag-a-long David and Maren's mom Ingelise.  The trail was flat most of the way, except for when we got near our campsite which was close to Donahue Pass.  We went about 10 miles our first day.  Maren picked out the campsite, which was not that great since there were so many mosquitoes, but all of the campsites were like that.  We had gnocchi with pesto for dinner.  It was really good, and we were so hungry. The thing that really stunk was when we finished eating we found the parmesan cheese for the gnocchi. :( For dessert we had Jif To Go chocolate silk which was so good!!!  The Jif To Go lasted forever since we used our tongues in the little cup to get the last little bit of chocolate.  We then read for a while and played cards and then headed off to sleep listening to Justin Bieber.

Hiding from the mosquitos in our tent.
They were so bad that Cameron was screaming!!!!

  1. It sounds like you girls are having great fun on your hike and eating delicious meals!!! Do you have candy breaks as well? What do you eat for breakfast and lunch? Did the mosquitoes attack you at night or does your bug spray work well? Did you get wet crossing the river? Have fun on the next leg of your journey!!!! Love, Mormor

  2. Good job, girls and David! Looking forward to hearing more about life on the trail and the battle with the mosquitoes. Are you blister free? Are you taking photos on your hike....love to see them. You should take photos every 15 minutes...perhaps you could sell them to National Geographic or the Yosemite Conservatory. Your hike should make a good subject for their magazine. Love, Papa
